Moto1 Motorcycles KTM Ready For ProMX Wonthaggi
The Moto1 Motorcycles KTM Racing Team is set for the opening Round of the 2024 ProMX Championship, kicking off this Sunday March 17th at the Wonthaggi Circuit in Victoria.
With Round 1 of the Sunshine State MX Series in the books, the Team has enjoyed a successful pre-season in regards to testing and development, whilst navigating rider injuries leading into ProMX.
A two rider contingent of Deacon Paice and Zac O’Loan will compete at Wonthaggi across the MX3 Class, whilst Jett Williams (MX3) and Darci Whalley (MXW) will be sidelined from Round 1 with injury.
For Williams, although back on the bike, with only a few weeks into training following off-season Collarbone surgery, he has elected to sit out R1 in preparation for the rest of the season.
“It was a tough call, but after speaking with the Team and my doctors we decided to not race at Wonthaggi. The track is always rough and gnarly, the risk of re-injuring myself this early in the year wasn’t something we wanted to be exposed to. I am back on the bike and will be ready for ProMX R2 at Horsham”, commented Williams.
Darci Whalley was off to a flying start to the year, with the new Moto1 Motorcycles KTM signing debuting with great speed at R1 of the SSMX Series, before a crash at Hervey Bay.
“Hervey Bay was going great, I was enjoying the bike, being around the Team and posting great results in the MXW class. In the final Moto I hit a kicker, going over the bars and I was knocked out for a short time. We are playing it cautious and I am devastated to be missing the opening MXW Round at Wonthaggi, but I’m ready to regroup and be back for the remaining rounds of the MXW Championship”, concluded Whalley.
Deacon Paice comes into Wonthaggi off his best MX3 class Moto at the 23’ Season finale’ at Coolum and will look to carry that momentum into Wonthaggi. The young WA rider considered by many to be an underdog for the MX3 Class podium, whilst Zac O’Loan will go to the line with the goal of experience and progression throughout the season.
Moto1 Motorcycles dealership owner Shane Fretwell is excited to get on the Road to ProMX 2024.
“It’s been a big off-season and we have grown our Race Team program, along with our partnership with KTM and our other sponsors considerably to make the 2024 season a reality”, said Mr Fretwell.
“Deacon and Zac are ready to fly the Moto1 Motorcycles KTM flag and I have been checking in with both Jett and Darcy, who will both be back soon. We are excited to go racing and see all the hard work pay off”, concluded Mr Fretwell.
